Do you love your job? Do you make much money? I ask this because recently I have been brooding over this question. It is the perpetual question of money vs. a job you love. Now before you barrage me with emails saying that happiness is always most important (I know this), let me give you a scenario:
Let's say you LOVE photography, and that it is your favorite thing to do. You spend all of your free time taking pictures and editing them and making them just the way you want them. So its time to get a job and you look out there at all the jobs available to you. You could get a job as a photographer for $35k or a job as an insurance salesman for $55k. Now tell me this, do you take the photography job, or do you realize that the insurance job will provide enough extra money that you will be able to afford to travel more and take all the pictures you want in your free time based on your additional income?
My father is a physician, he is also 67 years old. He has been a doctor since I was -19 (yes, thats a NEGATIVE 19) years old. Wow - he works 65 - 70 hrs per week still, and has little time to do anything ever - makes lots of money, but has very few friends. I wonder every day of my life whether he is truly happy, or has just settled into a rut and learned to live with that. I have sworn for the past 10 years that I will never be too busy to surround myself with people I love, in other words, hang out with my close friends. How do you feel about it? Do you want a job that is so important and busy that you lose touch with the world?
Ever since I saw the previews for Elizabethtown I have been very excited to see it; however, I have heard poor reviews which suggest that it isn't that good. I have trouble believing that anything that Cameron Crowe would support could be anything but amazing. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.
This is getting really long - I'm out.
Posted by Michelle Miles: working at Cingular, i made enough money to buy a new car, pay for everything myself (which gives me the ultimate feeling of independence, and i thrive off that) i didnt have to worry about making the bills. BUT. i didnt have time for you guys... my most important of friends, time to relax, and get school stuff done. i made the choice to leave my job, because i hated what i did, although i made the money. i am making less, but i have more time to just do... and i must say that the past couple of days where i could just hang out and have no where to be, see my friends and not have a care, have been priceless... finally some freedom!!
